Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge: price, release date, specs and features

The S6 Edge's glass and aluminium body makes it feel more premium than previous Samsung devices. It comes in five colors: white pearl, black sapphire, gold platinum, blue topaz and green emerald.

The S6 Edge comes with a refreshed version of TouchWiz, with fewer pre-installed apps, but won't have expandable storage through a micro-SD card slot. Neither the Galaxy S6 Edge, nor the S6, is water-resistant. Take a quick look at our first hands-on Galaxy S6 Edge review video here:

The much-hyped Galaxy S6 Edge was announced alongside the Galaxy S6 at Mobile World Congress 2015. Its dual curved edges, providing a more immersive viewing experience, make it one of the most unique phones on the market and it is now available for pre-order at major online retailers. See below for the latest on pricing, availability and features of the Galaxy S6 Edge.

Galaxy S6 Edge features

The standout feature of the Galaxy S6 Edge is its curve-edged display, which is made from Corning Gorilla Glass 4. This is what differentiates it from the S6, along with most other smartphones on the market. Its 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display has a very high pixel density of 577 ppi.

The Galaxy S6 Edge specs include Samsung's latest octa-core processor, comprising four 2.1 GHz and four 1.5 GHz cores. It packs 3 GB of RAM and either 32 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of internal memory, powered by a 2,600mAh battery. It also runs Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

The Galaxy S6 Edge is a premium device made from quality materials.

The Galaxy S6 Edge features cameras with f1.9 lenses and high-resolution sensors on both front (5 MP) and rear (16 MP) cameras. The rear camera also features optical image stabilization (OIS). But perhaps the most interesting new feature is Samsung Pay. This is a mobile payment service and will launch on the Galaxy S6 Edge, and Galaxy S6, in the United States during the second half of this year.

The S6 Edge has a better 16 MP rear camera.

Galaxy S6 Edge price

The Galaxy S6 Edge price comes in around 850 USD for the 32 GB version although this is not yet official (Samsung has not even listed a 32 GB version yet). The 64 GB version will reportedly then cost around 950 USD and the 128 GB version around 1050 USD.

The Galaxy S6 Edge will be more expensive than the S6

Galaxy S6 Edge release date

The Galaxy S6 Edge release date will initially be April 10 as a limited release, followed by a major global release shortly thereafter. Best Buy, Amazon and other online retailers now have pre-order pages live where you can register your interest in the Galaxy S6 Edge. You can expect Walmart, Target and Costco to have their pages up soon too.

The S6 Edge will have a staggered global release
