Samsung A8

Samsung isn't synonymous with extra-thin smartphones -- that distinction usually goes to Chinese vendors like Gionee or Oppo. However, you may have to rethink that reputation very shortly. Samsung's as yet unannounced Galaxy A8 has just been approved by China's telecom regulator TENAA, and the Android smartphone is unquestionably Samsung's thinnest yet at just over 5.9mm (0.23 inches) thick. Suddenly, the 6.3mm Galaxy A7 seems downright chunky.

Not that you'll necessarily be clamoring to get one. This is strictly a mid-range handset with a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen, an eight-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Its biggest perks are the subtly-integrated 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel selfie cam and a healthy 3,050mAh battery. Moreover, the device might not show up in your neck of the woods. The Galaxy A8 going through testing at TENAA and the FCC only has China-centric LTE data, and the A-series phones haven't been readily available in the US so far. If you're absolutely determined to have the slimmest Samsung device you can get, though, you have something to look forward to in the near future.(Recover Deleted/Lost Text messages from Galaxy A8)

The Thinnest Smartphone Yet - Samsung Galaxy A8

Samsung has made the Galaxy A8 smartphone official, following rumors of its existence spreading for several months. The device’s standout feature is the massive screen mated to a super thin chassis, which is the slimmest Samsung has produced yet. Here’s everything you need to know about the phone.

The Super AMOLED touchscreen has a 1080p resolution and measures a whopping 5.7-inches, and Samsung has wrapped it in a metal body that’s only 5.9mm thick. It looks stunning in the images, particularly thanks to a set of equally thin bezels around the display, and that sleek body should help the big-screen phone feel quite compact in the hand. It also weighs just 151 grams. The A8 is slimmer than the 6.3mm A7, and the 6.7mm thick Galaxy Alpha. It also beats some of the competition, including the 6.3mm thick Huawei P8.

Samsung has opted for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor to power the Galaxy A8, and added 2GB of RAM, plus 16GB of internal storage memory. The rear camera has 16-megapixels and an f/1.9 aperture, while there is a 5-megapixel wide-angle camera above the screen for selfies. It also has an LG-style hand gesture control — a wave instead of a clenched fist — and a comprehensive beautification mode.

There’s a fingerprint sensor in the home button beneath the screen, 4G LTE connectivity, a MicroSD card slot, and a big 3050mAh battery. The Galaxy A8 runs Android, and has a variety of China-only software features, plus a reworked localized user interface. This suggests that in its current form, the Galaxy A8 is going to be a Chinese exclusive, and it’s available to order online there through Samsung’s store right now.

Tips: When you buy a new Samsung Galaxy phone, the first thing you need to do is transfer data from old phone to new Samsung Galaxy phone

What’s 5.9mm thin, has a sexy full metal chassis, and is the only smartphone around boasting dual SIM 4G LTE Cat 6 connectivity? It’s none other than the Samsung Galaxy A8 4G+ smartphone, which will be launching in Singapore on 1st August.

The 5.7-inch phablet has a Full HD 1,920 x 1,080 (480ppi) pixels resolution SUPER AMOLED display, and a 2.5mm-thin bezel, and it weighs a mere 151g. It’s clear as day that the Galaxy A8 4G+ was made with viewing experience in mind, and having a modest weight paired with bezels helps to make the device look sleek.

Despite its 5.9mm body, Samsung manages to fit two separate trays for its dual SIM card feature. To be clear, only the primary SIM supports LTE Category 6 network (that’s the fastest speed currently available, and the same network capability as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2), while the secondary SIM will handle 2G data. The SIM slot also doubles as a MicroSD card slot that can expand the in-built 32GB storage by an extra 128GB.

The phablet isn’t just a pretty thing. Underneath the hood, it packs an octa-core processor (1.8GHz Quad Core and 1.3GHz Quad Core. It also comes with the same Fingerprint Sensor found on Samsung's flagship Galaxy S6, and a sizeable 3,050mAh battery capacity to match the smartphone’s power demands. Interface-wise, the device runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with the usual Samsung enhancements.

The Galaxy A8 4G+ will be available in both White and Gold from 1 August 2015. It will retail for S$698 (without contract) at all local telcos, major consumer electronic stores, authorized retailers, and Samsung Experience Stores.
